Who is your favorite Lord of the Rings character (movieverse) and why?

This is a difficult question to answer, since there are things in many of the interpretations of the characters and/or performances by the actors that I enjoyed. However, I'd have to say that Boromir was my favorite character.

On a purely superficial level, I liked the look of the character. I adored the costume. Boromir's black cloak and cranberry and gold tunic are two of my favorite pieces of costume from the picture.

On a deeper level, I have a fondness for troubled, conflicted characters, and Boromir is that--the good man who falls because he is trying too hard to do the right thing (not necessarily in the right manner). His entire way of life is being threatened most directly by Sauron, more subtly by Aragorn. He is constantly struggling to establish some degree of control over forces/situations that are utterly beyond his control. Aren't we all?

I also enjoyed how the movie developed the relationship between Aragorn and Boromir and used that to advance Aragorn in his character arc.

Last night was the two-hour season finale for Buffy. It was something of a homecoming for me. I used to watch Buffy religiously in the early seasons, but just sort of fell away from it. Well, after much urging from the Sly One, a most devoted Buffy viewer, I tuned in for the season finale last night. It kicked ass!!! Made me wonder what I was thinking when I stopped watching.

I was delighted by Willow's explosion of rage, her black eyes, her power. Delighted that Giles was back. Beyond delighted that Spike now has a soul.

Just...delighted.

Another source of pleasure was the release of Ridley Scott's _Legend_ on DVD. This is one of my all-time favorite movies, and when I found out it was being released on DVD a year-and-a-half ago, I went to Suncoast and put one on reserve. It was December of 2000. Just before the Christmas holidays. The DVD was due to come out in January 2001.

It was a bit delayed.

But even though Buffy viewing took over last night, I read through the DVD package. Perhaps most exciting is that the set contains both the original US theatrical release (with Tangerine Dream score) and directors cut release (with Jerry Goldsmith score).

On the whole, yesterday was a very satisfying day.
