After all the chaos and pain, I've arrived in Atlanta. Actually, I arrived last night, but I was too tired to even open up the laptop and try to get online.
On Monday, I hoped to make it to Knoxville, TN. Chattanooga was my stretch goal, but I didn't figure I'd make it. Well, after I hit London, KY (about an hour and a bit from Knoxville), I was done. I pulled into a Red Roof Inn where the nice lady gave me a room near where I could easily park the truck and walk the dog.
The truck was not bad in terms of driving, even with the car on the back. Honestly, the biggest pain in the ass was getting out of it and getting gas. Since it takes diesel, you have to fill up where the semi's do, and since I'm not a trucker, paying was a longer process than my in-and-out, pay-at-the-pump self is used to. While I stuck to the 55 mph suggested speed at first, I was tooling along at 65 mph on the second day. Oh, the traffic jams in Cincinnati, OH, and Chattanooga, TN, were also pains in the ass.
I got to the apartment complex and filled out my paperwork just as the movers and DirecTV arrived. All at once, I was trying to do a walk through and direct the movers and talk to the cable guy. Chaos.
Did I mention that Macy's delivered my mattress and box spring, but not the bed frame or mattress pad and as I look at the bedding, I'm wondering if I have a twin instead of the queen I ordered. Will measure tomorrow. So Macy's is coming back on Friday, as is the place with my sofa. Best Buy is coming Monday with my washer/dryer and plasma television. They also left said bedding in the dining room. WTF, dude. I am now sleeping on it on the floor with a quilt over it (which is why I'm suspicious about the size overall). Fun times.
The movers got everything in fine, though they discovered that the group in Cleveland who loaded me loaded down my dining room table and broke it. So I have to deal with that mess. Turns out I can't get DirecTV, since the building is between me and the satellite. So I will be without Bravo for six months. This has me very, very upset.
[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] talked me off the ledge and pointed out I could download eps (most likely) with my new high-speed connection..
However, apparently I cannot get DSL, since all the slots for the complex are full, and there doesn't appear to be a waiting list, so you just have to stalk AT&T to see if you get lucky and call when one is open. So potentially, I shall be on dialup until January (when the new cable provider takes over). This also makes me very, very unhappy.
On Tuesday, by the time I drove here, managed the move, dropped off the truck, got home, went to the grocery store, washed the doggie, and washed me, I'd put in a 15-hour day. I laid down after my shower and promptly dropped off to sleep. I did not go into work today. Honestly, given a choice, I'd rather not go in until next week, but I need to settle things there too.
Today, I didn't do much. I'm honestly not capable of doing much. Physically and emotionally, I'm just shot.
However, lest you think I'm planning on driving my car into the Chattahoochee River, here are some good things:
The Krogers next door is very nice. I got some lovely watermelon there last night.
My fridge has an icemaker.
My master bath has a garden tub.
My kitchen has a double sink.
My apartment rocks.
The view out my windows is all trees and woods, so I can pretend I am not in the middle of a big city.
My neighbors across the breezeway (who have lived here nine years) and their wee black Pom seem very nice.
Another lovely thing was that I had a package from
blooddrop when I arrived. Honestly, that made my day. It really did. I know I have some BPALers on my flist, and if you guys haven't already tried Blooddrop, you should. Astrid's scents have grown more complex and lush in the short time I've known her, and her bath and skin care accessories line also has some real standouts that are a part of my regular regimen.
Tomorrow, I will see what is to be seen at the office. I've visited there several times, but visiting and working there are two different things. Hopefully, everyone will be kind, because I think I'm going to need at least one nice, light week in order to recover some sense of myself.
Once again, thank all of you so very much ( *tight hugs to all* ) for your thoughts and comments.
