Ah, Saturday. It seems like a few short minutes ago I was lying in bed, savoring your beginnings, and now, you're nearly gone. I am sad. So sad. I wanted more of you, more from you, and alas, it was not to be.
In an attempt to put up a website that looks good and doesn't cost me hundreds of design dollars, I have committed WordPress. No linkies yet, because it's just a free account at WordPress dot com where I can play with the dashboard and settings. And yes, I know that the free templates that work with the free accounts have more limited customization and functionality than the ones you can install on your paid account (at whatever host you decide to use). Another yes, I am planning on going that route, since I want to damn well own the content I put on a site, which is not something that happens on a free site.
What do I think of WordPress so far? I'm amazed at how easy it is to navigate through the back end dashboards and impressed at the automatic picture cropping it offers for the header image. I think that chosing and customizing the right template, one that offers the functionality I'm looking for, is going to take longer than actually setting up the site itself.
Now I'm back to ponderings about hosts. I've heard good and bad things about DreamHost, which is where I was leaning. My current domain registrar has a horrible back end, so I want to move on from there. I know I asked for recs way back when, but if you have suggestions feel free to share and tell me what you like about the host. Hell, while I'm at it, if you also commit WordPress and have some themes you particularly like, feel free to rec them too.
Other than that, it has been a mostly sleepy day. Tomorrow, I'm staying in and savoring the final weekend day as I wait for Once Upon a Time.
