Thank you for sharing your fascinating thoughts! It's interesting to hear how you feel about AUs differently when imagining/writing them yourself! I don't know Wheel of Time in any form, but I guess I'd feel the same way as you did about inserting non-book characters and spending so much time on them. (I've enjoyed doing that in my canon-divergent AU, and I can understand it's not as much fun for any readers.)
