Voting with the Penis Is Never Cool...

Day two of my weekend crash is now over, and I'm hoping against hope that this coming week isn't as bad as last week was. However, considering I've been doing hand-holding for several of my coworker's new contractors who clearly were not very well prepped by him, I'm skeptical that it will be any kind of a good week. If it is simply not a bad week, I will count it as a win.

Not sure if any of you are watching So You Think You Can Dance this season, but I'm getting really annoyed with the show. Instead of having a results show the day after the regular show, the judges get the results of the voting that day, and they and the choreographers for the next week know which dancers were in the top/bottom. All the dancers perform on the next week's episode, and the results of the previous week's voting aren't announced until everyone has performed. Then the judges make their picks for who stays and who goes.

I'm not sure why they are doing it this way unless its something that Fox asked for to free up time for other programming. I have to confess I rarely watch results shows, so if I'm typical, it could have been a strategic move. However, the new format, in short, sucks balls.

Take last week's episode, the episode when my two favorite female dancers were sent home. The bottom three were the two of them and leggy blonde Latin ballroom dancer who always looks awkard as fuck to me. She has like mile-long legs and a curiously short torso. However, I knew before the three of them danced for their lives, that the blonde was staying. First, because Nigel, the head judge, has a total boner for her, and he votes with his penis all the fucking time. Second, because he and the other judges were overly harsh in their critiques of both Emilia and...uh...the bellydancer whose name I'm forgetting. That their routines were not as bad as their critiques implied that the judges had made up their minds before the show even started.

That just sucks. It's a good thing for the girls they are having a top girl and a top guy this season, because with all the bland and unmemorable girls left in the competition, I'm thinking a guy would have won.

i watched that show a few times, but it's just too emotional for me... i can't handle it. weird, huh?

Hee. I liked the header too. I love the dances that really hit emotional chords hard, but I know what you mean. I've been teary and weepy at some of the routines.

I'm kind of missing the 2 nights of dancing myself. then again, they keep trying all these new ideas every few seasons, so maybe that's what this is. Like when they did the all stars season?

Right. I'm all for keeping the show fresh, but I'm not liking how the rule change is playing out in the critiques and possibly choreography. If you as a choreographer know you are working with someone in the bottom, do you put in the same effort or care? I don't know.

Just had to read this cos of your header! Heh heh heh. But I do so agree with so many of these 'talent/dancing' style shows. And anyway, it's not dancing, it's bloody gymnastics and aaaarrrh not a bit WHAT DANCING TOGETHER IS FOR!!! (That is for voting with the p.! the last waltz and so on with him pressing up close, hot breath in your ear...aaaah - THAT is dancing properly! teehee you can tell I'm just an old fashioned girl, with an old fashioned... !!)

And who has the mentality to spend months, months! getting hurled about, torturing your muscles you didn't know you had, getting bruised and exhausted and sweaty...gaaahhh just to be told off rudely by lazy slobs sitting behind a table, who've never done more than a bad hipjerk in a dark club!(probably - I can't say for sure!)

Nah, lay it to me smooth and cool, and a bit of Andre Bocelli crooning, 'Take my hand, take my whole heart too, cos I can't help - falling in love - with - you!" and the feet hardly move!!!

Ah, well, you might like the show in part, because there are some ballroom routines as well as contemporary, hip hop, jazz. Even Bollywood.

I don't mind acrobatics in dance, but there has to be more to it than that or it doesn't work for me.

Didn't watch the episode but read the results, and now I really don't want to watch it. Those were my fave female dancers too! Never been a fan of Lindsay's, didn't think she should've been on the show in the first place, but as you said, the executive producer's penis did the voting. Their criticism is also unfair, some ppl got bashed, while others, all they do is let Mary scream (and don't get me started on that...).

The only thing I'm happy about is Matt being eliminated. Didn't care much for him either.
