I really resent losing an hour today, because I really do need all my hours. All of them. In fact, this is such a pressing need, that I think it would be lovely to get an hour back each quarter. Unless we could have a day instead, but I don't want to appear too greedy.

Yes, I realize that extra hour will likely be spent sleeping or gaming or chatting, but when I think about it, that elusive, grail-like, shining hour becomes the time I use to work on articles or the novel(s). It becomes an almost mythic time out of time when my inner critic/editor has taken a vacation and the words spill out of me without my having to force or struggle.
Hmmm, in reviewing things, I may need that extra hour each week, rather than each quarter. Hell, an extra day each week would work out nicely too. I guess that I need to be greedy after all.

ARTICLES

I'm not in a publish-or-perish environment, so I'm always fighting that sort of inertia when it comes to articles. Well, that and the working the equivalent of two full-time jobs. However, I have spent time working on a lot of conference papers that I've done nothing with except present them, and that seems...wasteful.

NOVELS

One of those full-time job equivalents is teaching, and I find that grading papers saps the same reservoirs of energy that I use to write. Sadly. Ideally, I'd like to get two of these going so that when I get stalled on the primary one, I have the secondary to fall back on.

I Should Be Working On (Part Two) )

Anyone know where I can get one of those typewriters that type your novels for you while you sleep? You know, the ones from Stephen King's The Tommyknockers? Though I would like the "turn you into a mutant freak and kill you in the process" feature turned off.
