I've been sitting here watching Grimm and Emerald City and listening to the sleet hissing against the windows for the last 2.5 hours. It hasn't switched over to snow yet, so there's that to look forward to. Back North, this wouldn't be anything to fuss about, but down here in the ATL with no plows or salting, it's a weather catastrophe.

The grocery store tonight looked like people were prepping for the zombie apocalypse. No eggs, little water, little bread. All the main staples were picked clean. But the little hound and I have food and drink, so we'll settle in and watch the Wild Card games and eat potato pancakes and kielbasa tomorrow.

And ignore the snow.

Yeah, we're poised for another nasty ice/snow storm here in Portland, and we just got back from the big grocery store on the east side of town--*lots* of things they were out of, but we got what we needed, and then subdued hungry stomachs with a trip to the new Indian grocery store nearby (paneer pakoras, my great love...) which also has a deli.

Here's our 2-day forecast:

Tonight: A chance of flurries after 4am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 24. Breezy, with an east wind 22 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph.

Saturday: A chance of flurries before 10am, then snow likely between 10am and 1pm, then snow and sleet after 1pm. High near 30. Windy, with an east wind around 31 mph, with gusts as high as 46 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Saturday Night: Freezing rain, possibly mixed with snow and sleet, becoming all freezing rain after 10pm. Low around 29. Windy, with an east wind around 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.3 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Sunday: Freezing rain before 10am, then rain or freezing rain. High near 32. Windy, with an east wind around 32 mph, with gusts as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Yeeeahhh... doesn't look like we're getting out of the house this weekend. We'd planned getting together with friends for Indian food tomorrow--we'll see if that happens.

Stay warm, you and the little hound, and enjoy your potato pancakes and kielbasa!

Ergh. I know how crappy that is up your way as well, from when I managed our field inspectors along the Pacific Coast. Inevitably, I'd have work over the mountains, and the passes would get closed. Or no one wanted to risk travelling over and getting stuck.

Hope all was well and you had a cozy weekend in.

Oh, man. Here's hoping the snowstorm isn't too crazy when it changes over from sleet. I feel bad about your grocery store. The only weather precautions we have to take here in the desert is keeping bottled water on hand in summer and paying attention to flash flood warnings during monsoon season.

The snow hysteria was greatly over-exaggerated this time around. While a bit of the white can bring things to a grinding halt here, this was not one of those times.

Naturally. Because I was stocked on person/dog food and had everything I needed to work from home.

If I wasn't prepared, I bet we would've gotten buried. Relatively speaking.

Heh, indeed. You'll probably get a crazy snow storm during a time when you wanted to go into the office, or something annoying like that. But, oh well, a respite this time is good.

There is a tiny bit of snow here, and the news is making it sound like the end of times. I'd have been amused by it all if I didn't have to leave the house: I'm not overly fond of snow in any quantity so yeah, I'm a bit miffed. Enjoy your day!

The OMG!OMG!OMG!SNOW!!! panic was greatly overblown. While some folks said they got a bit, we didn't see much other than a coating of sleet that melted away (except in some shaded spots) by morning.

Stay warm!

The scope is quite different. ^_^ Of course, this past weekend was more the Snowpocalypse that Wasn't.

Which was okay by me.

How is Emerald City? Debating giving it a go.

I'm just about 2 1/2 hours south of ATL and it's not snowing (it snows here maybe every 4 years & sticks maybe every 8 years). It has finally turned off cold though.
Hope y'all all stay safe & warm

The snow was less than impressive. Even though it sleeting all night, I don't think it was quite cold enough before/during for things really to ice up. Everything was clear (at least by me, I'm about 30 miles north of downtown) by Saturday morning.

I don't think the weather was supposed to even get to Macon, so I think it stayed north of you.
