Today, I realized I've gotten a little behind in updating my LJ's. I also realized that I hadn't mentioned in this one that my mom ended up back in the hospital the first week in June. This time it was a flare up of her emphysema brought on by her smoking to "calm her nerves" as my sister departed California for the cross-country drive into Pennsylvania. That's right. For those of you following my family turmoil this spring, my sister finally arrived in Pennsylvania.

Of course, she drove cross-country in three days of non-stop driving (though think night fog had made her stop at a hotel in the mountains of Pennsylvania), barreling through the Heartland in her Saturn, guzzling Rock Star to keep awake.

This time it took Mom a while to respond to the breathing therapy and the meds, which really fucked with her clarity. However, mid-week last week, the hospital moved her to their transitional care unit (part rehab but with more medical care than a traditional rehab) and stepped down the heavy steroids to help her breathe. She has been doing much better this week. She is clearheaded, able to talk on the phone, get out of bed, dress herself, and do therapy. She's coming home next week.

Tomorrow, I'm stuck in a day-long training session at work: Priority Setting for Managers. I told my boss that losing a day's worth of productivity right now when we are short staffed and in our busy time of year didn't seem like a priority to me. Didn't get me out the session.

I have much writing I need to start moving on, including several fic exchanges, some poetry for markets that open up again next month (and possibly for my speculative poetry group that meets Monday), a novel proposal package for critique at a con I'm going to in September.

In other news, I just got my first update for the World Fantasy Convention in Calgary this October. Still need to get a new passport so I can actually travel there and back again legally. Any of you guys going to the WFC this year too?

I'm so glad to hear your mom is doing better. And that your sis finally made it there. And this--
I told my boss that losing a day's worth of productivity right now when we are short staffed and in our busy time of year didn't seem like a priority to me.
--is so you. ^_~

Oooh, oooh! Me! Me, me, mememe! *waves hand* *bounces up and down* *snerk*

Glad your mom's doing better. :)

And don't forget you have fic to read!!!

Thanks. She had a bit of a setback today, so I guess I shouldn't write good things lest they crumble.

OMG! The fic is great. I wanted to FB last night, but I was grumpy from work and tired, and I wanted to say something other than, "OOOOO! *squee*"

Although that was, in fact, my response when I read it last night. ^_~

Sorry to hear that. :( Maybe tomorrow'll be better!!!

And I figured you were dealing with family matters. :) Glad I could do something to brighten your week.

(Also, Ooooo!Squee is a totally acceptable form of feeback. *g* Even though I love the thoughtful comments, too.)

Hee. Well, I left something a little more substantial with the fic.

Thanks again!

I'm glad that your mom is doing better, that must have been extremely stressful.

I so want to go to WFC, but I have two weddings in October and I think work will kill me if I take off anymore :(

Thanks for the kind thoughts.

Awwww. Weddings are lovely too. And I get the work thing. I took off a week earlier in the year for my Florida conference, and then was out again for other things not long after.

If you are able to come, let me know. It would be lovely meeting you.
