I expected to dislike Watchmen. At best, I thought I'd appreciate the visuals and feel let down by the rest. I was wrong. Visually, the movie is stunning, and the opening credits are a thing of fucking beauty. The story, well, it's not exactly surprising. I hadn't read the graphic novel, but I pretty much knew who the bad guy was going to be nearly from the get-go. I'm not even going to get into the representation of women in the film.

However, the story was a wild ride, and while the Comedian and Rorschach are vicious and brutal, I couldn't help a glimmer or two of sympathy for them, which surprised me. The acting was unever at best, Nite Owl II (Patrick Wilson), SilkSpectre II (Malin Akerman), and Ozymandias (Matthew Goode), were not great, but Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup), Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley), and the Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) were nicely played.

The movie didn't begin to feel like it was nearly three hours, and that takes some doing. I want to see it again. Very much.

Also, OMFG, 24 has me...quite beside myself tonight.

I loved the opening credits, even though I sort of had no idea what the movie was about until I watched it.

I didn't know the specifics, just the generalities. In talking to [livejournal.com profile] caras_galadhon the movie seems smarter in some ways than the graphic novel.

Ha! Can I say "I told you so?" Don't taunt me about 24... had to tape it because I'm working on a paper.... LOL!

Hee. You totally can. It was soooooo gooood.

I was working on my paper tonight too. I stopped for Jack. I always have to stop for Jack. Last year at ICFA, I downloaded Jack to my laptop, since I was flying in and missed the ep and didn't want to wait until next week to see it.

I will catch Jack up tomorrow night... I saw enough of the previews to know he is kicking ass and blowing things up which always makes me happy -- much squeeing on the couch will no doubt ensue... I have to say that if the hotel doesn't get Supernatural on Thursday night, I will be up for most of the night waiting for it to load in bits and pieces on youtube.... I did mention that Eyecon's Supernatural con is on the same weekend, right? We are leaving LATE on Sunday, so I can spend the day there.... my cup runneth over... (though sadly, no Jensen...)

Oh wait. The 24 might have been season before last. It was the ep where Tony "died." [livejournal.com profile] caras_galadhon and I were sitting in the hotel room going, "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

Umm, we're renting a car for the weekend, so we're going to hit EyeCon on Saturday (and NASA Sunday though not with the tour), and one other presenter is going to EyeCon both weekend days.

It does suck that Jensen won't be there. That made me sad. But we get Misha, and that's just...pretty. ^_^

I have to miss Misha's panel!!!!! I'm actually only going to get to see Jim on Saturday... "Someone" scheduled me to chair a panel... LOL! Actually, my hubby is also presenting -- at 4:30 on Saturday, so I'll have to make do with getting a photo op and autograph from Misha this time around -- I'm also doing the Creation Con in Vancouver in August, so I'll get to see him then... I have to say that I'm tempted to bid on the Misha breakfast on Sunday... but it was already $225 last I checked... not sure there's any way to justify that... Maybe I could get a ride over with you on Saturday morning though???
