Some Things Will Never Fail to Be Funny...
[Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and I laughed over this article last week after I squeed to her about the trailer for the new Holmes movie I saw in front of Half-Blood Prince, and since
nancyblue just reminded me about it and since it will never fail to be funny, I am saving the funniest part of it for posterity. The emphasis is mine.
GUY Ritchie's plan to put a gay spin on the relationship of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in his new movie about the detective and his sidekick could backfire.
Robert Downey Jr, who plays Holmes, has revealed the crimebuster will sleep with and have sweaty grappling scenes with Watson, played by Jude Law, in "Sherlock Holmes," due out Christmas Day.
"We're two men who happen to be roommates, wrestle a lot and share a bed. It's bad-ass," Downey told Britain's News of the World. Added much-in-the-news Law: "Guy wanted to make this about the relationship between Watson and Holmes. They're both mean and complicated."
But Michael Medved, a former Post movie critic, says Downey and Law must be joking. "There's not a seething, bubbling hunger to see straight stars impersonating homosexuals," Medved told us. "I think they're just trying to generate controversy . . . They know that making Holmes and Watson homosexual will take away two-thirds of their box office. Who is going to want to see Downey Jr. and Law make out? I don't think it would be appealing to women. Straight men don't want to see it."
Yeah. I have no interest in seeing Downey Jr. and Law make out. Not me. Now, I can't speak for the rest of you pervy people, but I won't be getting any sort of illicit thrillwhich I will use to make porny stories from the whole thing. I'm not that sort of girl.
What? Why are you looking at me like that?

It's sort of a holiday tradition that we all tromp off to the local theater to see something, lest we kill each other from too much togetherness in the house. And since we involves my mostly female relatives, and my gay boy cousin, the film is likely to be a winner with almost everyone in the group.

I remain unconvinced of the merits of the movie as a Sherlock Holmes story and Jeremy Brett has ruined me for all other Holmes.
So, the only reason for me to see this movie is for the sweaty RDJ and Law scenes. Those scenes happening together? Bonus.

Well, the article is. How gay it will be...that is still up for debate. However, I'm very eager to give it a chance to be all it can be.

Bwahahahaaa!! What a maroon! Seriously, what planet's this guy on?
Truthfully, I'm not sure I see a really strong romantic subtext in the Holmes stories, but I do think there's enough to play with the concept. It's not that far of a stretch.
I will, of course, be watching this one at home. By myself. *cough*

I am very...interested to see what the film does with the relationship between the boys.

Do you actually know any women? I think not.

What is he, new? *g* (Seriously, I almost spat coffee all over my laptop twice while reading this post. First out of sheer glee because of the grappling and the bed-sharing, and then out of disbelief when I read Medved's quote.)
... er. I mean, I have NO interest in seeing things like that. *cough* None at all, oh no.
And for some reason, my brain parsed 'Medved' as 'Medvedev' at first, and I couldn't figure out why the president of Russia was making statements about Hollywood movies...no subject
But yeah. That movie. Not interesting at all. ^_~
