This has been a rather disappointing weekend. I was either underwhelmed by the NFL playoff games or the teams I really wanted to win lost. The Golden Globes was rather dull on many levels: fashion, nominees, awards themselves. While I was sad that Viggo didn’t win for A Dangerous Method or that neither American Horror Story or A Game of Thrones won for Best Drama, I am delighted that Jessica Lange won for American Horror Story and Peter Dinklage did for A Game of Thrones.

The most exciting part of my day thusfar has been the vanilla chai latte I’m currently sipping. However, I did collect and put out the trash, clean the living room, do dishes, and register for ICFA before the rates went up tomorrow. My life, it is glamorous.

Tomorrow night, I have the dilemma of the Alcatraz premiere being on at the same time as the Being Human one, which means I have to stay up until midnight to watch Being Human. Come on, I don’t watch all that many shows. Why do the ones I want to see inevitably run at the same time?

Since I’ve been biking this weekend, I’ve worked through most of Shattered, the second book in Robin Wassermans’s Cold Awakenings YA dystopian series about a girl whose family has her brain frozen, scanned, and downloaded into a mechanical brain in a mechanical body. While the book has some of the usual teen drama elements, the questions about life and identity and soul, about what makes one living/alive, add layers of complexity. Since we’re deeply embedded in the downloaded protagonist’s point of view, it’s hard to see her as less than living. Even her reflections on how her responses are less emotional, how she feels (physically and emotionally) different make her seem more, not less, human.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] caras_galadhon tells me the Woodsman in tonight’s Hansel and Gretel based Once Upon a Time is Krychek from The X-Files.

*sighs* He didn't, and Sean wasn't there with the Game of Thrones folks. So sad. *woes*

I stopped having much interest in the playoffs when my Steelers got sent packing... although I did MUCH enjoy watching Tebow get his ass handed to him on a plate.

Yeah. The Steelers are out. The Packers are out. I have lost interest entirely.

Did somebody say Krycek? *ears perk up*

*grin* I've been so busy with a (extremely well-paying at this point) project lately I haven't had much time for LJ--so you'll forgive me, I hope, for being a little short in my reply. Besides, my brain's still thinking "Oh, hey, Krycek!"

I'm currently reading Delia Sherman's new YA, The Freedom Maze--like everything she writes, it's wonderful. The premise is that a girl from the 1960s gets magically transported back in time to her family's plantation in 1860--and taken for a slave. She's there for a reason (which I haven't figured out yet, and neither has she), but it makes for some *really* interesting writing.

*sneaksneak* *pokes* So glad to hear about the project! That's great. ^_^ It was a double-feature Ratboy this weekend, too! He wasn't just on Once Upon a Time, he was also on Supernatural. ♥ *G* I love Old School X-Philes. So many of us do the earperk when news of Nick Lea circulates.

It's a good thing [livejournal.com profile] caras_galadhon was watching with me or I wouldn't have recognized him.

I adore Delia Sherman's writing, and the premise of the book sounds fascinating.

I love it when I see Krycek pop up in something I'm watching. It always makes me smile.

I paid so little attention to the golden globes; I didn't even know Game of Thrones had been nominated.
