[livejournal.com profile] quietspaces mentioned SF writer Mary Robinette Kowal's Month of Letters Challenge today. In the wake of the warm glow of holiday card excitement (and my utter fail in that area this year), I thought it might be nice to do something like send out a random card or letter. Like magic, this challenge appeared on my flist.

Y'all know that I'm a total techno-geek. I love my electronic communication devices a lot. However, I also journal and write longhand, and I think I always will. I like the feeling of writing, shaping the letters on the page, watching it fill up and get tracks and channels where I've written. No, I'm not a soft-touch writer. I like to doodle around my writing, put stickers or highlighter on the pages. I like the physical act of writing.

I also like getting things in the mail. However, that doesn't happen too often to most of us, I'm guessing. Unless it's bills or junk or magazine subscriptions.

So I might just try to send some lettery/postcardy cheer durring February.

Erm, I always hated writing by hand, still do. Has to do with be being left handed but forced (by my mum) to use the right hand. This leads to terrible cramps. They of course were worse in school but I still get them. Only nowadays I swap to the left hand and carry on if it can’t be helped (during minuting). But personally I prefer typing.
Unfortunately my family considers typed letters impersonal and so insists on hand written ones.

Blast, I have totally forgotten what I was on about. Sorry for the rambling.

Argh. Why would they make you write unnaturally? That's just mean. I can understand why you'd not want to write much after that.
